Selling at Comic Cons and Craft Fairs
How to make an event table work.
October 14, 2026 · 2 min read
Comic conventions, book fairs, craft markets, and school events put your graphic novels in readers' hands — literally. Many people buy a comic only after flipping through it. Here's how to make a table work.
Choose the right events
- Comic conventions for fans of the form.
- Book festivals and library events for families and teachers — great for classic adaptations.
- Craft and holiday markets for gift buyers.
- School book fairs and visits for young readers (see schools and libraries).
Start with a small local event before paying for a big convention table.
Stock up affordably
KDP lets you order author copies of your paperbacks at the printing cost plus shipping. Order well ahead of the event — printing and delivery take time — and bring a few more copies of your best seller than you think you'll need.
Make your table easy to understand from across the room
- A tablecloth and a simple banner with your name or series.
- Books standing upright on stands, covers facing out.
- A flip copy of each book people can browse freely.
- Clear price signs, and a bundle deal for several books.
- Something to draw people in: original art, a sketchbook, or a live drawing demo.
Taking payment
Bring change and a card reader so you can take card payments. Check whether you need a sales tax permit or to collect sales tax where the event is held — rules vary by place.
Talk to people
A friendly "Do you like classics?" or "Who are you shopping for?" works better than waiting. Keep a short description of each book ready. Offer to sign copies — readers love a signed book.
Collect emails
Most people won't buy today. Have a simple sign-up sheet or QR code for your newsletter, maybe with a free printable as a thank-you. Those readers can buy later — see build an email list.
Keep notes
After each event, write down what sold, what people asked about, and what you'd change. Over a few events you'll learn exactly which books and which audiences fit you best.
